Hi I’m Bonnie Doon… my “daddy” has been making the best ice cream since 1938.  In fact over 74 years later, my ice cream was voted the # 1 Ice Cream in the Best of Michiana contest.  Not only is the ice cream named after me, but also my 50’s style diner/carhop restaurants.  It’s quite flattering to see my name in lights all over Michiana!

My “daddy” is really the Muldoon brothers-they were true ice cream experts and the founders of Bonnie Doon.  My name was the winning entry in a contest to name both the ice cream and the restaurant. The Grand Prize was $ 50 which was a lot of money back then!!

East 4th Street in Mishawaka was my original home. Before it was converted to an ice cream factory and restaurant; it was the inter-urban train station.  My ice cream is still made right here in Michiana, at a former Indiana Toll Road Building in Elkhart.

We had the area’s first drive-in and car-hop service.  With my roller skates on, I would deliver Bonnie burgers, Crinkle-fries and Chocolate Mint Sodas to the cruisers.

There’s a real mystique about Bonnie Doon- probably because I’m still the same after 74 years.  The prices have changed – at one time sundaes cost 10 cents and quarts of “brick” ice cream sold for only 30 cents but the quality and atmosphere haven’t!!

Bonnie Doon Ice Cream is available to families throughout the area at many grocery stores like local Martin’s Super Markets and Meijer stores.
